Natural Detergents – The Buckeye

Philipp Jordan, a student of chemistry, has been working in environmental engineering for 7 years and has worked on many sewage plants all over Austria. Therefore, he has seen the wastewater which arrives at the sewage plants day by day. What he found most bothering was the fact that chemicals needed to be used to rid the water of other chemicals. This is where Philipp wants to change something. At his talk he illuminated what enormous amounts of different chemicals a sewage plant has to take care of before the water is considered clean again and can be released back into nature.
He explained if it is necessary to use a cleaning agent for every wash cycle and showed some cheap and easy-to-get alternatives to avoid the usage of washing detergents. The emphasis laid on the chestnut's ingredients and their properties including experiments to prove that the chestnut is as good as any cleaning agent for the most common types of pollution.
