On Thursday, March 8^th 2018, the Jungchemiker Innsbruck invited to the lecture "Clean Chemistry – The role of Chemistry in Cleaning". In the beginning the audience were granted an insight into the history of cleaning. The lecturer Dr. Jonas Rivetti talked about the development of cleaning agents through the centuries and their central role in nowadays live. According to him there is a very easy definition for cleaning. It is simply the removal of dirt and dirt is nothing but matter in the wrong place. Unique combinations of matter and place are what makes the cleaning process challenging. There is not only the need for different cleaning agents for different surfaces and materials, but also for different contaminants. This is why an universal cleaning agent is the holy grail of cleaning chemistry.
