On May 5th 2018 fifteen young scientists headed to Wattens to visit the local paper factory. Being the world leader in special papers the paper factory Wattens generates an annual turnover of about 150 million euros. It was founded in 1559, (making it the second oldest company in Tirol) and today it employs 440 workers and supplies over 100 countries. Christian Mair (research department) gave a short presentation and explained the basics of the paper manufacturing process. This was followed by a company tour. To avoid contamination the visitors were provided with appropriate protective clothing and were granted an insight in the various laboratories. At the end the head of the research and development department, being a chemist himself, explained which tasks and challenges he has to deal with on a daily basis.
