On October 4th 2018 the Jungchemiker in Linz organized an event where Prof. Dr. Waser (Institute of Organic Chemistry) and Prof. Dr. Paulik (Institute of Chemical Technology) talked in front of pupils of 7th and 8th grade. The importance of stereochemistry and how a single 3D-difference alters the property of compounds was presented to more than 100 pupils. Prof. Dr. Waser started with the explanation what enantiomers are and how they differ in properties. The Contergan-case was also discussed. Prof. Dr. Paulik continued by explaining what catalysis is, where it is applied, what the tacticity in polypropylene has to do with stereochemistry and how it alters the characteristics.
